The agency existed between 1945 and 1976.
ASA was under the operational control of the Director of the National Security Agency (DIRNSA).
In addition to intelligence gathering, it was responsible for the security of army communications and for electronic warfare (ELOKA).
In 1977, the ASA was subordinated to US Army Military Intelligence to form the United States Intelligence and Security Command (INSCOM).
